In the fourth quarter of 2009, MidAtlantic will be debuting a new online training program called the Ag Biz Planner, taught by Dr. David Kohl, Professor Emeritus of Ag Finance and Small Business Management at Virginia Tech.

Part of the Farm Credit University, this comprehensive program offers modules in the following areas:

  • Megatrends Facing the Industry

  • Strategic Business Planning

  • Preparing for your Lender

  • Constructing Financial Statements: The Balance Sheet

  • Constructing Financial Statements: The Income Statement and Cash Flow

  • Understanding Lending Decisions

  • Farm Business Management Factors and Benchmarks

  • Growth and Transition Management

  • Personal Financial Management

  • Communications, Ethics and Leadership

If you’ve ever seen Dr. Kohl speak, you know that he’s both dynamic and easy to understand. This eLearning program brings Dr. Kohl into your living room (or office, or kitchen—wherever you keep your computer). You can study at your own pace, at whatever time of day works best for you.

And, in addition to the online materials, course work will be supplemented by hands-on mentoring from a Farm Credit employee. So you have a live person who can answer your questions or forward you to more information when you need it.

At the end of the class, all graduating students will have a complete business plan, and a roadmap for future success.

Stay tuned for more information on the Ag Biz Planner.
